Have you heard the song “Try” (whose music video slightly resembles a Dove campaign) by Colbie Caillat? Although I’m not, like, a huge Cailat fan, I love the message from this song. I love the part that says, ” when you’re all alone, by yourself, do you like you?”
The other day I was meeting up with a friend, and as I was driving to her place I realized that – aside from face moisturizer – I had completely forgotten to put on any makeup! Oops. When I saw her I actually apologized (why do us women always apologize for silly things??) that I had forgotten to put on any makeup, not even my usual quick brush of mascara. She rolled her eyes and was like, ” why would you ever apologize for that???”
I whole-heartedly believe in trying – try to be a good person, try to take care of your body by eating things that will nourish it, try to enjoy life (which often means indulging in dessert, let’s be honest). But like this song says, you don’t have to try so hard to be someone else’s idea of what is beautiful. I know, every girl loves getting dolled up, but we all know that most of the time we prefer wearing no makeup, putting our hair in a pony tail, throwing on a baggy shirt, and lounging around in socks. At the end of the day, just love who you are. Work hard to take care of yourself for you and only you, and you’ll never fall short. :)
If you want to do a little reading, Caillat gave a great interview with ELLE about how she was tired of being Photoshopped. She just got way cooler.
Have a great (makeup-free??) weekend! If you want, share a pic of yourself on social media with the hashtag #nomakeupnoproblem. I shared this one on Twitter, please feel free to join in! I’d love to see your beautiful, au naturel faces.
