Going on a Date With Myself

foggydress_dateSure, I do things alone, like grocery shopping, working out, or running errands…but I never just go on a nice night out by myself. After attempting to do a fun cooking class with some friends, I asked them, “Is it weird that I kinda wanna go by myself?” to which the smartly answered no. Well the cooking class was booked by the time I went online to buy a seat, so then I thought, why not still do something fun, with just me? I’m the type who loves to be surrounded by friends and family – all the time. But the more I thought of it, the more I really wanted to have a night out with just little old me.

foggydress_dateIt was easy to decide on where to go, what to do, and what to eat: Old Town Pasadena, lots of shopping, and my favorite Thai place. The usual compromising or convincing that goes on when planning things with others was replaced by complete control in what I wanted to do. I could seriously get used to this.

foggydress_dateSince I do not shop well with others (I can sometimes spend hours in just one store! And I don’t always like to be swayed by the opinions of others) it was so nice to feel absolutely zero guilt for spending 2 hours trying on 50 different things at one place, and then zipping from one store to the next. And even though I bet a few people were feeling sad for the poor girl eating all alone, I wish I could’ve told them how much I completely enjoyed eating and people watching and eaves-dropping (I cannot believe the drama some people have!) without the distraction of endless chatter. Don’t worry, I’m not depressed or going anti-social… I’ve just come to the conclusion that going on dates with just yourself is pretty awesome. You should try it sometime ๐Ÿ™‚

I am currently in between summer vacations, but I’ll try and post a few pictures of my travels next week. I have been having a blast – with a capitol B!

  1. You’re so cute! I love that you did this. And I’ve heard that going out to eat by yourself means you’ve reached the top of maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Way to go!

  2. Thanks for the inspiration! I often complain about being bored when my Chinese man is busy. I’ll have to take myself out on a date. Brilliant! (Btw, I love love your blog.)

  3. I love thai food! Your pics make my mouth water. And nothing’s wrong at all with going out by yourself. I love the idea of being in control of what you want to do, and the pace you do it at.

  4. Your food looks extremely tasty! It sounds like you had a great time ๐Ÿ™‚ I often go clothes shopping by myself, like you I like to take my time! I’ve not yet had the guts to go for dinner or a movie by myself though, the most I can muster is lunch alone with my laptop or a book. It’s something I should try, thanks for sharing your experiences! xx
